When I visit another city I always love checking out the most popular bars and quite often I find it’s hard to find a good list. So with that said, it’s only right of me to write a post about some of the most popular bars in Sydney.

I will be writing about the best pubs and small bars to visit in Sydney in future posts, stay tune :). For now here is my list on some of the most popular bars in Sydney.

cruisebarCruise Bar – located  in Circular quay, this bar offers great views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. A stylish and laidback bar that is great for a casual drink. Every Thursdays they have salsa night for those who want to dance.

Address: Level 1-3, Overseas Passenger Terminal/Circular Quay West
Sydney NSW 2000

EstablishmentEstablishment – This bar is very popular with the locals. It has an ancient decor feel to it with large iron pillars throughout the bar combined with high ceilings. It’s classified as the trendy place, where all the suits come out. Prices are not too expensive and the atmosphere is very loud and busy. I don’t mind a drink here every now and then, but security guards can be painful to deal with sometimes especially on the weekends. Make sure you come dressed descent or you will have no chance of getting in.
Address: 252 George Street
Sydney NSW 2000

hemmesphereHemmesphere – Located on level 4 above the Establishment, this bar has a relaxing atmosphere and has good table service. The crowd is older with a lot of corporate people. It’s a great place to organise work meetings or just to relax and have a few drinks with your friends.

Address: Level 4, 252 George Street
Sydney NSW 2000

hugosloungeHugo’s Lounge – this bar is located in Kings Cross and is popular amongst the local people. Its not my first choice of bars to visit since it can be quite pretentious and you really have to dress formal or you won’t get in.  There’s always a long queue of people here and security can be a pain too.

The atmosphere is vibrant and cozy and they do delicious pizzas!

Address: 1/33 Bayswater Road
Potts Point NSW 2011

marblebarMarble Bar – if you like live bands combined with R&B music then you will love this bar. Located underneath the Hilton Hotel, this bar has a long history dating back to 1893. Its interior decor is beautifully designed and crafted Victorian style and is listed on the heritage list. One of the best bars in Sydney for Live music.

Address: b1/488 George Street
Sydney NSW 2000

operabarOpera Bar – Located at Circular quay with views of the Harbour Bridge and literally steps away from the Opera House. This is one of the best outdoor bars in Sydney because of the amazing views and location.  I recommend all tourists come here for a visit, take in the view while drinking your favourite beer or cocktail. Experience Sydney with the stunning views!

Address: Sydney Opera House, Lower Concourse level
Sydney NSW 2000

ivyThe Ivy Bar – This bar is increasing with popularity amongst Sydneysiders considering it has only been open for a few years. The Ivy has very nice architecture and interior design, as well as an outdoors area with trees. They even have a separate pool bar for the show ponies. It’s owned by the same guy who owns the Establishment. You can see why there are many similarities. However, the Ivy is much bigger and much more sophisticated than Establishment. The intention here is to bring in the suits, rich and the famous to spend big.
Address: 1/320-330 George Street
Sydney NSW 2000

argylebarThe Argyle – I used to come here a lot for work drinks on Fridays. Located in the historical part of Sydney in The Rocks, the Argyle is mixed with a heritage and modern feel that produces a vibrant and fun atmosphere. It’s spacious and has 3 levels. This bar is usually pretty busy on weekends and the dress code is semi-formal.

Address: 12-18 Argyle Street
The Rocks NSW 2000

zetabarZeta Bar – located on level 4 of the Hilton Hotel, the Zeta Bar is a great place for cocktails. It’s trendy and classy bar with awesome lounges and a great interior decor. You definitely need to dress to impress if you intend to come here and be prepared to pay a little more for the drinks. They also have a beautiful rooftop terrace with amazing views of Sydney.

Address: 4/488 George Street
Sydney NSW 2000

Sydney’s bar scene just gets better and better. As well as a burgeoning small bar scene, there’s a world of iconic bars not to miss. Some are iconic because of their amazing locations – in the Sydney Opera House, at Manly or Bondi Beach – while others are in fabulous heritage pubs such as in Paddington, Glebe or The Rocks. Sydney Socialities provides various services to every one at affordable price.
