Recently I had the opportunity to catch up with actor Andy Minh Trieu who plays the character Kitchen Ninja on Channel Nine’s TV show Kitchen Whiz. Kitchen Whiz is a game show focusing on the world of food where kids get to cook and learn the science of Food.

Without further adieu here is my interview with the Kitchen Ninja.

Can you describe your character Kitchen Ninja and what role you play on the show?

The character is the Co-Host of the show and provides the comic relief. The Kitchen Ninja also has food the contestants must replicate and chops up any food that needs to be chopped.

How long have you been in the industry and what made you choose to pursue an acting career?

I have been in the industry for about 5 years. I love Jackie Chan and Kung fu movies. That inspired me.

What advice would you give to people wanting to pursue an acting career?

Do lots of training, meet lots of people, and stay very positive!

How did you get onto Kitchen Whiz and what challenges do you face on the show?

Through a Kitchen Whiz screen test. I had to play the character for the producers of the show. Shooting several episodes a day is quite challenging but it’s really fun!

What made you take on this role, as the Kitchen Whiz Ninja?

The Kitchen Ninja was a chance to act and do martial arts weekdays on national TV so it was very appealing. Also all the people working on the show were really awesome.

What do you love most about the show?

The people working on the show and the kids. Beau Walker (Nitro from the Shak) has taught me a lot too.

What is your favourite food?

I love PHO (Vietnamese beef noodle soup). On one of the episodes the kids had to make this in 3 minutes!

Any foods you don’t like?

I’m not a big fan of eating Ginger on its own.

A lot of kids love the Kitchen Ninja, do you have a role model growing up as a kid?

I was a big fan of Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Loved Kung fu action stars! Also I love character Actors such as Johnny Depp.

Thank you for the interview; do you have any news that you can share with us about your future plans?

I have more news but I can’t announce it quite yet but check out more Kitchen Whiz this year! Channel 9 weekdays @ 4pm :) Thanks Tim
